Otak’s desire to make positive change in our communities extends beyond the places that we live and work, to the global community. Our international work provides a win-win for us and for our international clients. Firstly, we can export our practical expertise in planning, design, transit, infrastructure and natural resources management. This expertise has been gained collaborating across multidisciplinary projects in the Pacific Northwest, a region which is pioneering the global movement for green, livable, and resilient cities. Secondly, this work provides our staff with exposure to different cultures and environments. Our international projects are often in developing economies where the impact we have is really evident. Given the constraints of these developing communities, unlocking their potential requires pragmatism, resourcefulness and innovation. These skills are transferable and can influence design and project delivery back home in the places where we live and work.
